The 30-Day SEO Kickstart
A day-by-day plan to build a rock-solid SEO foundation for any website. Perfect for new sites or those that have never invested in search optimization.
Audit your current site
Run a full site crawl to identify broken links, missing meta tags, and crawl errors. Document every issue you find so you can track progress over the next 30 days.
Set up Google Search Console
Verify your domain in Google Search Console and submit your sitemap. This gives you direct visibility into how Google sees your site and which queries drive impressions.
Set up Google Analytics
Install GA4 and configure conversion events for your key goals (signups, purchases, contact form submissions). Baseline your current organic traffic numbers.
Research your top 5 competitors
Identify the 5 sites that consistently rank for your target keywords. Note their content structure, publishing frequency, and backlink profiles for competitive intelligence.
Build a seed keyword list
Brainstorm 50+ keywords your ideal customers would search. Mix head terms with long-tail variations. Group them by topic cluster for content planning.
Analyze search intent for each keyword
Categorize every keyword as informational, navigational, commercial, or transactional. Google each one and study the top-ranking results to confirm the intent.
Fix all crawl errors
Resolve 404s, redirect chains, and server errors identified in your audit. Set up proper 301 redirects for any URLs that have moved permanently.
Optimize your title tags
Rewrite every page title to include the primary keyword within 60 characters. Place the keyword near the beginning and make it compelling enough to earn clicks.
Write unique meta descriptions
Craft meta descriptions between 120-160 characters for each page. Include the target keyword, a value proposition, and a subtle call to action.
Add or fix H1 tags on every page
Ensure each page has exactly one H1 that clearly describes the content. The H1 should incorporate the primary keyword naturally and differ from the title tag.
Optimize your URL structure
Audit all URLs for readability. Replace parameter-heavy or auto-generated URLs with clean, keyword-rich slugs. Keep them short and descriptive.
Create your content strategy
Map your keyword clusters to pillar pages and supporting articles. Plan a publishing calendar with at least 2 posts per week for the remaining days.
Write your first pillar page
Create a comprehensive, 2,000+ word guide on your most important topic. Cover the subject thoroughly and link out to supporting subtopics you will create later.
Add schema markup to key pages
Implement JSON-LD structured data on your homepage, about page, and any product or service pages. Start with Organization and Breadcrumb schemas.
Optimize your images
Compress all images, convert to WebP where possible, add descriptive alt text with keywords, and implement lazy loading for below-the-fold images.
Improve your site speed
Run Lighthouse and target a performance score of 90+. Minify CSS and JS, enable caching, defer non-critical scripts, and eliminate render-blocking resources.
Set up internal linking
Create a hub-and-spoke internal link structure. Every new article should link back to its pillar page and to at least 2-3 related posts.
Publish your first supporting article
Write a focused, 1,200+ word article on a subtopic from your pillar page. Link bidirectionally between the pillar and this new article.
Claim your Google Business Profile
If you serve local customers, claim and fully optimize your Google Business listing with accurate NAP data, photos, and category selections.
Build your first 5 citations
Submit your business to major directories like Yelp, Apple Maps, Bing Places, and industry-specific directories with consistent name, address, and phone details.
Write 2 more supporting articles
Continue filling out your first topic cluster. Each article targets a unique long-tail keyword and links back to the pillar page to pass authority.
Optimize for Core Web Vitals
Check LCP, FID, and CLS scores in Search Console. Address the largest contentful paint by optimizing hero images and fixing layout shift issues.
Create a FAQ section on key pages
Add 5-8 FAQs to your pillar pages with FAQ schema markup. Target question-based keywords that appear in People Also Ask boxes.
Start building backlinks
Send 10 personalized outreach emails to sites that link to your competitors content. Offer your content as a better or more current alternative.
Publish a data-driven or original research post
Create linkable content like a survey, case study, or industry benchmark. Original data earns natural backlinks and gets cited by journalists and bloggers.
Audit and improve your top 5 performing pages
Check Search Console for pages already ranking on page 2. Update them with fresher data, better examples, and improved structure to push them to page 1.
Set up rank tracking
Start monitoring your target keywords daily. Track your top 20 keywords across the clusters you have built to measure progress and spot trends.
Create a content refresh schedule
Plan quarterly reviews for all published content. Schedule updates to add new information, refresh outdated stats, and improve underperforming sections.
Optimize for featured snippets
Identify keywords where you rank in positions 1-10 that show a featured snippet. Restructure your content with clear definitions, numbered lists, and tables.
Review and plan next month
Analyze your 30-day results: traffic change, impressions, click-through rates, and ranking movements. Double down on what worked and adjust your strategy.
